I had an idea for a Catradora fic like a year ago and ugggh I'd need to rewatch the whole show to do it any justice and I dunno if I have the patience

Anyway have some barely-edited info-dumping I did last March in a tiny discord server for a completely different cartoon ship*:

The other night when I couldn't sleep it occurred to me that there could/should be a very realistic fic out there of catra and adora, after the events of the last season, having a very passionate but over-dramatic relationship for a couple of years, then breaking up and getting back together multiple times before one or both of them decides Actually, we have to break up, for real, we are slowly killing each other over this; and one of them moves away and they both get therapy of some kind and both try dating other people but it just isn't working out (I can absolutely see Adora in a relationship that's perfectly fine and healthy but also boring as fuck, and her just thinking: huh, I guess normal people are supposed to feel like this? but it just feels like it's missing something, but the thing it's missing might just be a lot of arguing and crying and make-up sex, so like, I should just. stop missing that. probably. And Catra ending up in a bunch of short-term things where all of them end with either the other person going dude you are in love with someone else and I can tell or her feeling guilty and breaking it off bc the other person is obviously more into her than vice-versa)

And anyway after like ten years or something they see each other but one or both is still dating someone else and it's like ha ha our younger days were SOMETHING ELSE weren't they, oh did you get therapy oh good me too, I'm glad you're doing well, nice to bump into you :) but they're both internally screaming because yeah those feelings are Still There, fuck fuck fuck

The current partner of whichever of them dumps them bc "you're still in love with your ex" but neither of them say why the dump happened and the dumped one doesn't say anything to the other, which means they hear about it through the grapevine, and their heart goes YOOOOO and their brain goes "I thought we were actually done with this and being Good about it fuck fuck fuck" and theyre both :) still normal to each other :) all the time :)

But yeah there's, I dunno. A party? with a lot of people? maybe they each have one (1) drink, not even enough to impair them, and the next thing you know they're making out in a closet or something somewhere, and then one or both of them is crying hysterically, and after a lot of talking they're like, I want to try again. But as actual adults who've had time to grow up and have a lot of therapy. So they do, and it's good, and all their friends are like Oh thank god you two are both the stupidest motherfuckers on earth.

Halfway through the first post I realized I am half re-writing one of my fave Sherlock fics but putting it on top of She-Ra characters and adapting it to spop's plot but it'S JUST A GOOD STORy and honestly how it would actually happen

Because they were SO YOUNG in the show and neither of them had ever seen a healthy relationship modeled, ever, by anyone; and they're both heavily traumatized on top of it. And love isn't always be enough to deal with all of that. It's just not.

Me: this would make a good romance novel if we could file off the serial numbers

Also me: it's only interesting to me because it's THESE CHARACTERS like how the fuck would you include the backstory lolol

My dumb brain is like, "look I know spop ended three years ago and also, this is obviously the kind of story that AN ACTUAL ADULT writes, generally speaking; so nobody would read it, but what if you spent a year writing this"

But also half the plot feels like it's lifted from The Speed of Objects in Motion by holyfant (linked above) which is still, easily, one of my top-two Sherlock fics of all time, bc it's just so painfully realistic--they do end up together again at the end, but there's a lot off off-again/on-again and arguing and then a few years they're not together in the meantime

Anyway, re: spop: Fate and destiny are great but real happily ever afters would be so hard with everything that lead up to the end of the series

(im glad u think im not rambling btw !! <3 i need to scream at someone abt how good spy x family is haha)

YESS OMG like!!! that one chapter where yor goes "I'M HER MOTHER!!!" after they think she's anya's maid,, your honor she is officially Mother now she said it and we heard it 😌 omfg the gag is like literally SO funny like did u see the latest chapter recently?? 😂 anya's like "omg dad will find out mom's an assassin AND that she hates frogs!!!!" she has her priorities straight. i love her to death 🥰 and can't get over loid's "omg... this child... she NEEDS love and support. i will now buy the entire store's clothes to make her happy" LIKE. as for the anime... i'm so excited for them to do the first few arcs, i hope they include the little side chapters too like where they go to the aquarium and stuff!! :D OHH so glad you like shadow house so far!!! and yes dflgjfh interesting characters is very much a checklist for this manga, esp with the whole concept of like having a shadow self and etc!! :D i dont know if you've met him yet, but my favorite character is john!! he'll come early on in the manga i think :) and lemme know how the rest of the series goes for you!! 💕 AAH i haven't heard of the animes you've recommended but now that means i've got a list to watch!! :D i'll definitely try to check them out when i get the chance ehehe! also i haven't heard of owl's house but i have heard that infinity train is like so good it's to die for fdk;hg 💕so maybe i've gotta give those a chance as well! kfgjhg i'm so happy with your kindness towards violas, we don't get enough of it aaaa!! :') we're like literally always the butt of the joke ldghkg; it's not too much harder to learn compared to violin or cello i'd imagine, but oh boy,, the heaviness of carrying a big viola on your shoulder all day :') i guess piano and viola are back pain solidarity! however, i still gotta say learning piano is just soo versatile, like i'm sure you can just p much transcribe most pieces into it!! for viola, it's really hard to find music from games / animes etc so i was just always a bit disappointed about it :'(

i've got a wholeass rant about why into the spiderverse is exactly what animation is meant to be so buckle up folks

OKAY so today i was about to launch into why into the spiderverse is so incredible but my boss shut me down with "psh i'm not gonna pay to see a cartoon" and i got annoyed but also too anxious to say anything so y'all get to hear what i would've told him if my ass hadn't been too chicken shit

animation has this bullshit idea attached to it that it's only for kids shows or really weird and generally vulgar adult shows, but that's because that's all it's been used for so far. and yeah! that stuff is great and all but the mistake we've all been making is that we're either trying to fit it within the boundaries of real life physics OR we're trying to break real life physics in increasingly disturbing ways. into the spiderverse is so amazing because it breaks our real life boundaries AND is aesthetically pleasing!! it pushes our boundaries in ways i've never seen before! this proves that we could make so many stunning movies with animation!! that's what it's meant for!!! there's so much unexplored potential here!! into the spiderverse is just as good, if not BETTER than a lot of the live action superhero movies that have been released so far and that's because of its medium! throughout the movie, there's so many smooth switches between regular animation and a kind of comic book look that just wouldn't be achievable if it had been live action. it would've been clunky. just. the lighting, the colors, the camera angles, the effects, the frame rate, just. everything. absolutely breathtaking. the creators used their medium so well, i just. hhh.

and yeah, a live action into the spiderverse still would have been good bc of the story and the writing but just. i don't think it would have had the same effect on me. i would've walked away thinking "yeah that was a really good movie" but i very much doubt i would've said "guess who's about to go on a fan art streak for this" fifteen minutes in. this is the movie that made me absolutely sure i want to be an animator. that i want to be a part of something that leaves people as awestruck and excited as this movie left me

maybe it's not that way for everyone, but damn, i just really love into the spiderverse and i hate that some people won't even give it a shot bc it's animated

Hello please look in this direction

I haven’t written in thirty-seven years so today I sat down and wrote about the world I build in my head when I’m bored...which is often haha.

I tried figuring out map-making programs and I am so bewildered by them. Instead I wrote this sort of historical timeline of the setting in the style of Bill Wurtz’s history videos. 

It’s probably not entirely logical or whatever, but I’ve tried my best. Constructive criticism is always appreciated. I might post this on r/worldbuilding. I dunno.

Okay, so I’m focusing on four major countries/cultures in my world-building.

Imagine a map because I can’t figure out map generator sites to save my life. Taking up most of the space in the southeast quadrant of the map is the empire of Kaleem. Centuries ago, Kaleem didn’t exist. There wasn’t much on this particular continent save for some tightly-knit tribes of hunters and gatherers following their food across vast savannahs. Water was very hard to find. Enter Kaleem the First (who I promise will have a cooler name once I start figuring out conlangs for this world). He’s restless. And he has visions of water.

“Hey” says Kaleem to his tribe. “Anyone want to follow me to the flying water I see in my dreams?”

 “Wow, no.” says most of his tribe. “That’s weird. You’re weird. Get lost.”

So that’s exactly what Kaleem did. He gathered up his wives, children and some curious hangers-on and immediately got lost in the savannah. But just as he’s down to his last wife and things are at the worst 🎶 OH MY GOD A GEYSER 🎶 . At least, modern science would say it was a geyser. Kaleem called it ‘the flying water I saw in my visions’...which thankfully became ‘Fountain of Kaleem’ for short. Kaleem and whoever is left settle around the fountain and a community begins to form (yeah there were probably some knotted-up family trees back then but this is very early human history for this world so people didn’t understand that yet so shhhh). The community becomes a settlement and becomes a city.

“Hey.” says the tribespeople who earlier called Kaleem a weirdo. “We’re kinda dying and you’re kinda not. Can we like, chill here?” “Okay” says Kaleem who is now king because he found the place and that’s how things work. The empire of Kaleem flourishes throughout the southern continent. They’re the most prosperous and advanced civilization on the map, and it’s rumored elsewhere that they eat gold.

Ilshe is an archipelago in the northeast corner of the map. Being an island nation, they’re kinda isolated and have their own traditions that others may consider WEIRD or BARBARIC or MILDLY CANNIBALISTIC but whatever half the world doesn’t know they exist so they can do whatever they want. This includes intimidating other Ilshe tribes into submission by eating their chiefs, which is exactly what Míras and his warriors did to centralize power around his particular island and tribe. Hey, it put an end to all the in-fighting for pretty much...forever. 📣Go big or go home.📣 Ilshe kinda looks like a cartoon character’s hand, with a giant island in the middle surrounded by four (maybe five I haven’t decided) smaller islands. NO ONE LIVES ON THE BIG ISLAND BECAUSE THAT IS THE ISLAND OF SOULS WHERE BODIES ARE DROPPED OFF AS OFFERINGS TO THE GUARDIANS OF THE AFTERWORLD WHO TAKE THE FORM OF HUGE CARRION BIRDS OM NOM NOM 🍖BONE ARMS AND TEETH🍖. Ever hear of a Tibetan sky burial? Go google it. It’s fascinating. And gross. It's "gross-cinating"! So now that power is centralized in Ilshe things are pretty chill and aside from butchering for food and animal sacrifices for sacred days things aren’t purposefully killed as often anymore. You could say it’s pretty peaceful, in a genuinely morbid sort of way.

Then there’s this asshole mainland nation to the East of Ilshe called Statsukar. “Hey, that empire-building thing down south looks like fun.” say the leaders of Statsukar. “Let’s try it. How about those island weirdos up there? They’re not even doing anything. This should be easy.” So they set sail for Ilshe with a few hundred warriors and attempt an invasion. It does not go well. One boat returns with a few dozen dazed soldiers and what’s left of the king of Statsukar’s remains tied to the prow. “Soooo...they ate our king. Can we like, leave them alone?”

“Holy fucking shit.” says Statsukar. And they leave Ilshe the hell alone. Because holy fucking shit.

But now there’s no king. And he’s left behind teenage twins, Roga and Annar. Now it’s time to play “Who Wants to Lead Statsukar?” so text those votes to--actually don’t text those votes anywhere because cell phones don’t exist here. Roga wants to strengthen Statsukar’s military after the humiliating defeat by Ilshe. Annar just...doesn’t. Ae just doesn’t and I just realized I haven’t mentioned the existence of a third gender with different pronouns in this universe yet but I guess now I have so wahey. Annar wants to use Kaleem as a model for Statsukar and focus on STUDY📖 and INCREASE OF CAPITAL📈 and 🏥GENERAL WELL-BEING OF THE PEOPLE OF- “No that’s stupid we need firearms and shit.” says Roga.

And the winner is....🥁🥁🥁 🎺 Nobody, nobody is the winner. Statsukar no longer exists; it’s now Rogakar and Annakar and you will never guess why. 5 seasons, and maybe a 6th (or a series of specials)? for the final arc is good enough, and I wouldn’t want it to constantly attempt bigger and better things like.. Another show I enjoy. besides, the Crewinverse have had this planned out for years and I’m sure they know exactly what they’re doing, so that prob is gonna be how it pans out.
